Safer nights with Sensio Vista – giving the night shift a full overview

At Dronning Ingrids hage in Oslo, the care teams working at night have benefited from the Sensio Vista web portal. The large-screen solution has provided a better overview of the residents and faster and more efficient digital supervisions; it has increased resident safety and freed up time for the night shift.

Dronning Ingrids hage ("Queen Ingrids' Garden") in Oslo, Norway is a living concept for people with dementia who live in Oslo. This "dementia village" has 130 rooms in small residential communities with 19 groups with six to eight residents in each. What's unique about Dronning Ingrids hage is that the building itself encloses a defined area that makes it safe to move freely outdoors, so that people living with dementia can live as normally as possible within a safe framework.

Modern care technology

Ever since its opening in the spring of 2023, Dronning Ingrids hage has had modern care technology from Sensio. All residents has a watch or necklace, with door control, resident localization and alarm button, and all care workers have access to assistance and violence alarms.

RoomMate 2.0-Sensor-venstreThe RoomMate multi-sensor (pictured) is also installed in all resident rooms. This sensor "sees" a three-dimensional image of the room via infrared or laser signals, and the primary function of RoomMate is digital supervision – either when an alarm is triggered or routinely at set times. A digital supervision at Dronning Ingrids hage involves a real-time grayscale video being transmitted from RoomMate to a mobile phone via Sensio Pocket or to larger screens such as tablets, PCs or TVs via the new Sensio Vista.

Vista romoversikt-1Sensio Vista is a newly developed web portal that gives care teams real-time status on all resident rooms and the ability to do digital supervision on a large screen. Vista is specially developed and adapted for use on large screens such as TVs, PCs and tablets.

The night shift use Vista

When we visit Dronning Ingrids hage, the care team working at night has already been using Vista for almost two months. Inside the nurse's station, they have one large TV screen and several PCs that are logged on to Vista.

Ronny Andresen - DIH_redigert_mindre"We have Vista on the TV screen to have a better overview of the alarms and to carry out digital supervision," says Ronny Andresen (pictured), a care worker and night shift at Dronning Ingrids hage.

He has been eager to use the new technology and says that Sensio Vista gives them an even better overview of the residents' rooms and makes it easier to see details in the video images on a larger screen.

"The biggest advantage of Vista is that everything is much faster and more efficient. I don't have to take out my mobile phone every time I get an alarm notification because we can quickly get an overview of the alarms on the large screen. What's more, it's much quicker to do digital supervisions on the big screen. Overall, this frees up time for other important tasks," says Andresen.

Andresen thinks it's fun and exciting to see the development of care technology and the benefits of the technology for both care teams and residents.

"This technology contributes to increased safety and security and opens up for health care that was not previously possible. Dronning Ingrids hage is a perfect example of this," he says.

Provides a better and faster overview

Tina Lorenze Aak (pictured) works as a special consultant for digitalization and care technology at Dronning Ingrids hage. She has been responsible for the implementation and use of care technology since she started in the fall of 2024.

DIH_Tina_ute_sitt_mindreEver since the introduction of Sensio Vista, Aak has been clear that the new web portal is a supplement to, and not a replacement for, Sensio Pocket. As a result, many of the care teams working at night have tested Vista, with positive feedback.

"First and foremost, Vista provides a faster and more immediate overview in real time of all the residents' rooms and the alarms that come in. The large screen also gives the night shift a good overview at the same time, especially when there are many alarms, as the Sensio Pocket app on the mobile phone can become a bit small and confusing," she says.

More efficient digital supervisions

In Tina Lorenze Aak's experience, the greatest benefits of Sensio Vista come from the use of digital supervision.

"Our night shifts do regular digital supervisions twice a night and when needed. With Vista, it's much quicker and more efficient to do digital supervision; it's just a matter of clicking through the room list. With 130 resident rooms, it's obvious that this frees up time that care teams can use in other ways for the benefit of the residents," she says.

Aak also emphasizes that they experience better quality of the supervision videos from the residents' rooms, because they are shown on larger screens.

"When you can see the video images on a larger screen, you can observe details that are not so easy to see on a mobile phone. It can be small things that can make a big difference. That's why I believe Vista helps to increase the safety of our residents," she says.

Recommends Vista

The care teams working at night at Dronning Ingrids hage have benefited from Sensio Vista, and Tina Lorenze Aak envisions that this can also be a nice and useful tool for other care homes.

"Vista is not difficult to implement, and it doesn't take much extra work to get started. It should be an addition to the technology already in use. That's why I'm happy to recommend other care homes to test Vista and see what benefits it brings – first and foremost for the night shifts," she concludes.
