RoomMate
RoomMate is a revolutionary infrared safety sensor designed with discretion and privacy in mind. It provides continuous awareness of activity and alerts care teams to events that may require attention, such as potential falls. With RoomMate, care teams gain valuable insight into patterns that support better follow-up – associated with reported reduction in falls up to 80%.

Fewer reported falls
Falls are the most common type of accident among the elderly and can have major physical, psychological and social consequences. Falls are also often the start of a rapidly downward spiral. We envision a world where older people live more independently, families worry less, and care teams thrive.
Less stress and stronger teams
Great care starts with empowered care teams. Access to consistent, reliable data gives teams a clearer understanding of resident activity at the start of every shift - reducing uncertainty and supporting more confident decision-making. Over time, this can contribute to more predictable workflows and more fulfilled teams
Better sleep with less physical supervision
Physical checks during the night can often disturb residents, leading to poorer sleep quality - an important factor in both wellbeing and recovery. RoomMate enables care teams to carry out discreet digital checks, helping reduce unnecessary physical supervision and supporting more undisturbed nights for residents. This helps residents enjoy better sleep - which is why many refer to RoomMate as “the night shift’s best friend.”
More time for physical care
24-hour passive monitoring supports more efficient working patterns - especially overnight - by reducing the need for routine, disruptive checks. This allows teams to prioritise care more effectively around technology, freeing them up to focus on more meaningful interactions with residents.

Privacy-first, digital supervision
Digital checks allow care teams to see an infrared view of the residents room via a mobile device, tablet, or PC, enabling them to quickly assess whether a physical check is required.

What is RoomMate?
- Digital checks allow care teams to view an infrared image of a resident’s room - enabling them to quickly assess whether a physical check is required.
- Automatic notifications help identify situations that may require attention without requiring the resident to raise an alert - known as “passive alerting.” RoomMate identifies these situations and notifies care teams, which can be particularly valuable for people living with dementia.
- Sensio Insight is an innovative e-health solution that provides operational decision support for care teams. Through data-driven insights, teams can understand activity information more effectively to support more personalised care planning to residents.
- RoomMate can be managed in the Sensio Pocket mobile app, or via Sensio Vista on larger screens such as TVs, PCs and tablets.
- RoomMate is integrated with Sensio 365, a modern, cloud-based eHealthcare platform that brings activity data together in one place.

Frequently asked questions about RoomMate
What is RoomMate?
RoomMate is an infrared safety sensor designed with discretion and privacy in mind. It provides awareness of room‑level activity and highlights events that may require attention, such as potential falls, notifying care teams so they can assess the situation and decide on appropriate follow‑up.
By giving care teams a clearer overview of activity patterns over time, RoomMate supports more informed planning, prioritisation, and follow‑up in daily care routines. This reduces uncertainty, helps teams focus their time where it is most needed, and supports more efficient and less disruptive care. Customers report that this improved organisation of care can contribute to fewer fall incidents in their settings, with some seeing reductions of up to 80%.
Who can benefit from RoomMate technology?
RoomMate is primarily used in elderly and residential care settings, as well as assisted living facilities.
Which alerts and alarms can RoomMate trigger?
RoomMate can support early awareness of a range of events and situations, including:
- Falls – identifies activity associated with a fall, without the need for wearables.
- Sitting up in bed – provides an alert if a person sits up during the night, enabling timely intervention.
- Leaving the bed – identifies when a resident gets out of bed.
- Leaving the chair – detects when a resident leaves a chair.
- Activity – monitors general movement within the room.
- Room entry – alerts when someone enters the room, including during times when this may be unexpected.
- Room exit – notifies care teams when a resident leaves the room.
- High sound levels – detects raised vocalisations, such as calls for help.
- Movement in bed – identifies movement patterns, highlighting periods of lower or higher activity to support care teams in prioritising follow-up and assessing when further action may be appropriate
How does RoomMate handle visual and/or audible supervision?
The RoomMate sensor provides several options for care teams in a care situation. If there is an alarm or warning, you will receive an anonymised image of the room, so that it can be assessed whether the incident is of a serious nature and requires action. Care teams can also use the app's audio functions to either contact the resident or listen into the room to assess the severity of the incident. In addition, two-way speech can also be set to speak to the resident. Listening can also be done anonymously, so that you cannot hear what is being said, but assess the situation based on voice volume and intensity. When the cause of the alarm has been clarified, the notification is acknowledged, and notes can also be made directly in the medical record system from the RoomMate or Sensio Pocket app.
